Originally a performed monologue by Daniel Beaty, Knock Knock: My Dad’s Dream for Me is beautifully illustrated in watercolor and collage by Bryan Collier and relates a young boy’s disappointment at his beloved father’s sudden disappearance. The father’s loss is never explained (divorce? incarceration? death?), but the young boy’s eventual acceptance and understanding leads to strength and growth.
