Doug Salati’s Hot Dog won the Caldecott Medal in 2023 and captures the human and animal desire to leave a screamingly hot, crowded city for an isolated beach. Salati’s spare text captures the anxiety of the dog and owner as the city’s heat forbids normal life. Even that limited text disappears as they arrive at a cool, sanded beach and the illustrations tell the story sans words. One of those recent Caldecott-winners that are really tough to find in a first edition, first printing, this copy is in Fine condition in a like dust jacket.
