Carved in wood for a young girl in 1820’s Maine, Hitty is the narrator of her one hundred year journey around the world with stops in the South Seas (where she survives a shipwreck!), through India finally back in the USA where she lands in an antique shop and begins her memoirs. Written by Rachel Field and illustrated in color and black and white by Dorothy Lathrop, Hitty: Her first Hundred Years won the Newbery Medal in 1930. This first edition, first printing is in VG+ condition (with a sunned spine) and a VG dust jacket, complete, but with visible restoration to the spine and upper front corner. Scarce in dust jacket and first printing, this copy is rendered even more desirable by Rachel Field’s signature, dated in the year of publication on the front free endpaper.
