The first Caldecott Medal was awarded in 1938 to Animals of the Bible, a selection of biblical tests selected by Helen Dean Fishfrom the King James version and illustrated in black and white by Dorothy P. Lathrop. Broken into two sections, the Old and the New Testaments, Lathrop’s black and white drawings bring the verses to life. An interesting point for identifying a true first of this title, as here, is the misspelling of the illustrator’s name (“Lathop”) on the spine of the book and dust jacket. A first edition in Fine condition in a VG+ dj with a few small chips.
