I hate making blanket statements, but the world seems a less colorful place since Eric Carle’s passing in 2021. The illustrator of more than 70 books, none is better known than The Very Hungry Caterpillar which first appeared in 1969 and has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. In 1994 a special limited edition of 500 was published, formatted with silver boards with an original crayon drawing of the caterpillar holding a “25” sign attached to its front cover. The book is encased in an acrylic box. In Fine condition in its original mailing box, this is number 314 or 500 and an opportunity to own an original, signed piece by one of the twentieth centuries most beloved children’s illustrators.
